Specimen data for Hastingsite

Tom Mortimer catalog number: 1394
Identification method: Visual, supported by EDS analysis. Species reported from this locality by Philip Morrill and others.
A polished grain EDS analyses (BC486) gave a reasonably good match for hastingsite chemistry, ideally,
NaCa2(Fe2+4Fe3+)(Si6Al2)O22(OH)2 .
Chemistry indicated bt the BC486 analysis is:
(Na0.44,Mg0.41,Ca0.17) Σ1.0Ca2.29Fe5.89(Si6.37Al1.69O22)(OH)2 .
The amphibole T, C, B, A site filling best possible for the BC486 reported chemistry.
A 2006 EDS analysis by Cannon Microprobe gave the plot below. The BC analysis plot peaks agree quite well with the Cannon plot peaks above the Mg peak. Hastingsite EDS plot

Notes: There are six valid species with Hastingsite as part of their name, including Fluoro, Chloro, Magnesio, and Potassic.
